The UK’s approach to Open Data and Digitalisation
Energy Systems Catapult has been working with the UK government, energy industry and
it’s regulator to improve access to data, enabling digitalisation, and ensuring the energy
system is fit for purpose for net zero. This workshop will present on the learnings and
recommendations of the Energy Data and Energy Digitalisation Taskforces, as well as
discuss the current energy data landscape in the UK, followed by an open discussion with
attendees on those topics.

About Greg Johnston
Greg is a Digital and Data Consultant who specialises in data and digitalisation policy and regulation in the energy sector. Greg led the development and consultation on the “Data Best Practice” and “Digitalisation Strategy and Action Plan” guidance documents for Ofgem. Since joining Energy Systems Catapult Greg has contributed to several projects, including the Energy Digitalisation Taskforce & Offshore Energy Data Strategy Taskforce. His policy paper titled “Digitalising Licensing in Energy” will soon be published as part of the IEEE Xplore library of technical literature in engineering and technology. Greg holds an MRes in Human Geography and a BSc (Hons) in Geography; both from the University of Glasgow.
